After announcing that the Diablo II beta test was delayed, Blizzard was pretty quiet about the upcoming RPG sequel - until now. Our Diablo II designer diaries are now resuming after several months of inactivity. Once you finish reading this month's designer diary, you'll find there is reason to rejoice, for it appears that Diablo II is approaching completion. Blizzard also sent us five screens to go along with the interview; click here to see them now.

  • 8/13/99
It's been a long time since our last Diablo II Designer Diary entry, so we thought our next diary would take a look at the progress of Diablo II. Helping us kick off our first entry after a months-long hiatus is designer Stieg Hedlund. For more specific information on the game, stay tuned for our Diablo II preview coming in a few weeks.

  • 3/5/99
This month's Diablo II designer diary catches up with Matt Samia, the man in charge of all cutscenes in every Blizzard game. Right now his department is busy at work on over twenty minutes of Diablo II movies. Here's what he had to say about the production of Diablo II cinematics.

  • 12/21/98
This month, we cornered Matt Uelmen, the man in charge of all music and sound in Diablo II. He answered several questions about the game's music, sound effects, and voice acting.

  • 11/16/98
Part two of this month's Diablo II designer diary finds Max Shaefer revealing even more about this work in progress, including further details of the environment designs and level generation.

  • 11/03/98
This month we've split our designer diary into two parts. In this first installment, Max Schaefer, co-art director on Diablo II and backgrounds guru at Blizzard North, talks about how Blizzard North designs its beautifully rendered levels.

  • 09/14/98
In this installment, we talk with lead artist Phil Shenk and producer Matt Householder about art production and character and monster design for Diablo II.

  • 07/14/98
Blizzard North president David Brevik talks about the transition from Diablo I to Diablo II and some of the changes that will be made in the sequel.
